Bridge to Nowhere

The bridge to Nowhere is a bridge that the people of Alaska want to have built for them to get them from theier island to the next island with the airport. They believe they have a growing population and need the other island for homes and businesses so be built on. Also, so they have easier access to the airport. It's somthing that they have been wanting for over 30 years. And now that Sarah Palin is running for office, she has mentioned it and said that she is stopping the bridge to nowhere. It also says that she hasnt been totally truthful about what she is doing and she is just bragging about it to make herself look better. When people here about this issue, they take it as a joke. They think that this island is in the middle of nowhere and small. Dave Kiffer thinks that that is a misjudgment. After reading this arcticle, i agree with Kiffer. He made strong points and showed statistics about how their island really is important and should be take seriously. That includes getting a new Bridge. The island Ketchikan, is 90 minutes north of Seattle, it had a year round population 14,00, its the 4th largest community in the state and more then 250,00 people vacation there each summer , mostly on cruises. So i think that they do need to have a bridge built. It would give them more of an oppourtunity so expand their community and let it grow like it needs to,

save more, consume less

Yes i do agree that we do need to save more and consume less. Were are in an economic problem right now and as a Nation we need to help fix it. We have been getting deeper and deeper into debt over the years and its time that we make a change. I like how Zakaria thinks that this problem is somthing that can help us become more stronger as a Nation. He thinks that since we have to make a change now, in the long run it will pay off. Help us become more independent and stronger.
As a nation we have always spent more then we have.We buy more than we make. And now we are so far into debt ( $10.2 trillion), the National Debt Clock in New York city ran out of space to display the figures. So the resolution? They said they will purchase a new clock. Thats ridiculous. So instead of trying to fix the problem, there just going to buy a new clock.

reaction to stephen king

In my opinion companies should be able to market prescription drugs to consumers because even though there are side effects, they list them on the bottle. It's the consumers choice to know if they want to put their health at risk by taking the medication. So i think, that as long as the companies state what the side effects are, it's the consumers job to be responsible about the product they are purchasing. If companies advertise for people to see, they will know the information about it as well as the doctors so it would be more clear to them. So all in all, the companies should advertise their products for every day people to see.

samuelson

I think the point that Samuelson is trying to make is that we really arnt in depression yet. we are on the decline, but it is not yet a depression. In the 1930's we had the Great Depression, this is no where near the Grweat Depression.

He does believe that this situation is similar, but also different in a lot of ways. Studies show that we have actually been through 10 recessions from the Great Depression to now, so in theory, this is somthing that we will come back from.

The stock market has only dropped 30 points from its peak compared to 90 points that it dropped during the Great Depression. The 700 billion dollar bailout program was designed to stabalize banks, so it should be nearly impossible to fall into a depression.
